The Apostille Process

01

Consult

We discuss your document and destination country to confirm what's needed and whether an apostille is the right certification.

02

Notarize

If you are in west Texas, I notarize your document, which is the required first step before the Texas Secretary of State can issue the apostille. If you are in another state, you will need to have it notarized in that state and mailed to me.

03

Submit

The notarized document is submitted to the Secretary of State's office where the document originated for apostille issuance.

04

Deliver

Once the apostille is issued, your authenticated document is returned to you ready for international use.

Common Questions

What is an apostille?

An apostille is a form of authentication issued to documents for use in countries that participate in the Hague Convention of 1961. It certifies the authenticity of the signature, seal, or stamp on the document.

How long does the apostille process take?

Processing times vary. Standard processing through the Texas Secretary of State typically takes 10–15 business days. Other states processing varies. Expedited options may be available. I'll give you a realistic timeline when we consult.

Does the destination country need to be in the Hague Convention?

Yes — apostilles are only valid for countries that are members of the Hague Convention. If your destination country is not a member, a different form of authentication (embassy legalization) may be required. I can help you determine which applies and walk you through the process whether it is an apostille or legalization.

Can you help with documents from other states?

If your document originated in another state, it may need to be apostilled by that state's Secretary of State which I can do for you. I am not limited by the state for an apostille or legalization.
